Olivia Rodrigo's Stylist Opens Up About the 17-Year-Old Singer's Focus on Eco-Friendly Fashion

Posted on January 24, 2021 by Adiantku

Only a few weeks into 2021, and it feels like we’re all just living in Olivia Rodrigo’s world. The 17-year-old High School Musical: The Musical: The Series actress kicked off the year with a breakup song titled “Drivers License” that’s dominating the charts and a moody music video to match. I’ve kept the track on repeat (and since it’s breaking records left and right, I’m sure I’m not alone), and I’m now deep into the Olivia fan club. So much so that I’m not only admiring her voice – I’m admiring her fashion, too.

I chatted with Olivia’s stylist, Laura Sophie Cox, who dresses other stars you know and love like Emma Watson and Bianca Lawson. Laura told me that, like Emma, Olivia has her eye focused on eco-friendly fashion. “She’s only 17, but she has this huge passion for sustainability. It’s really exciting and refreshing to see,” … Read the rest

Ready or Not: This Revealing Trend Is About to Freak Out the Fashion World

Posted on January 24, 2021January 24, 2021 by Adiantku

No, seriously—whether you’re ready or not, this micro-trend is swiftly marking its territory as one of the hottest styles to try this spring and summer season. The trend we speak of is better seen than described, but if we had to try it’s basically any article of clothing that slinkily ties and wraps around a bare midriff. These wraparound ties can be connected to a top, skirt, or even swimwear, which we’re anticipating seeing a lot more of come summer 2020.

This trend was unsurprisingly very prevalent in the ’90s (which you can see via the Prada F/W 92 runway image below) when skin-baring silhouettes were pretty much all anyone cared about. As we encroach on warmer weather, we’re predicting that this micro-trend is about to make it big once again in this decade. Influencers have already started wearing it and retailers are already hopping on board. If you ask … Read the rest

Melania Trump has a $200,000 Birkin Collection

Posted on January 23, 2021January 23, 2021 by Adiantku

Former U.S. First Lady Melania Trump flaunted her black crocodile bag from her Birkin collection as she departed The White House on Wednesday. Her entirely black look, from all European designers, isn’t the first we’ve seen to be paired with the famous bag selection.  Known for her many appearances with the iconic Hermès handbags, we’ve counted at least six of the style in her collection that amount to a value of over $200,000.

One of her famous bags was front and centre in a particularly cringeworthy moment from this past August, when Melania clutched her tan Birkin while avoiding the former president’s hand as they exited Air Force One. Celebs like Rihanna took to social media to comment and post the viral video.

While we can all agree that we love a classic Birkin, here’s hoping for a future of spotting them on, well, anyone else.

How This Size-Inclusive Brand Caught the Eye of Stacey Abrams

Posted on January 23, 2021 by Adiantku

Just imagine working in an industry that doesn’t accept you. That’s how former fashion editor and curve model Lauren Chan felt for nearly a decade. “I showed up to work everywhere from the Glamour offices to the set of the Today Show and fashion weeks around the world, and my smaller peers wore designer clothing, while I was relegated to cheap fast-fashion,” she says. Recognizing fashion’s size inclusivity problem and doing something about it was long overdue. Chan, who identifies as plus-size herself, blazed her own trail by walking the runway for Chromat – in a swimsuit, no less – and accepting the horrific online vitriol that followed with grace and humility. (She’s since modeled, sans clapback, for luxury e-tailer 11 Honoré.) For her latest endeavor, Chan made the move from strutting and editing to full-fledged designing. Her new brand, called Henning (a play on the word “hen” that’s meant … Read the rest

These Are the Best Places to Buy Lingerie and Why

Posted on January 23, 2021 by Adiantku

Lingerie shopping can be so personal. I know for me, it takes a lot for a new bra to impress since I’ve tried way too many uncomfortable or unsupportive options. Recently, I found a bra that was so comfortable it totally changed the way I thought of my whole collection. But when I was talking to my friends, I realized that everyone shops for lingerie with such different ideas in mind. For instance, my smaller-chested friends are always showing off their adorably dainty bralettes, while my larger-chested friends wouldn’t dare to invest in a bra without a supportive underwire.

To make the whole lingerie shopping experience much easier, it all comes down to knowing what you’re looking for in your undergarments, which is why I’m breaking down the best places to buy different types of lingerie. From the site with the best lace pieces to where to … Read the rest

Did Anyone Else Totally Miss the Sentimental Accessory Simon Wears in Bridgerton?

Posted on January 22, 2021 by Adiantku

Lavish accessories abound in each and every episode of Bridgerton, from diamond-embellished tiaras and décolletage-covering necklaces to grandiose hairstyles that qualify as stand-alone accessories in their own right. Among the Netflix show’s glitz and glamour, a decidedly less-flashy adornment has captured our affections, and that, your grace, is Simon Basset’s brooch. You may not have noticed, but the dapper Duke of Hastings is rarely seen around London without the same enamel pin fastened to the lapel of his coat or vest. The oval piece prominently features a green gemstone in the center that appears to be emerald, surrounded by intricate gold and silver detailing.

The jeweled accessory is never overtly mentioned during the course of Bridgerton‘s steamy first season, and many viewers (us included!) were hardly aware of its presence because, well, we were frankly too caught up in Simon’s captivating eyes and swoon-worthy grin. As … Read the rest

I've Lived in NYC and Miami—These Are the Biggest Style Differences

Posted on January 22, 2021 by Adiantku

After a decade, I decided it was time for my time in New York to come to an end—for now. And so, like many New Yorkers did this year, I packed up my one-bedroom apartment into my car and drove down South to the next best city (in my opinion): Miami. Granted I am only on my third month of living down here, and perhaps I am still in the honeymoon phase, but I am adjusting just fine to this new lifestyle. Okay, I absolutely love it. Though I will admit, my biggest concern moving down to Miami was the style. Being a fashion editor in New York for almost over a decade, I was worried about how I would transition my minimal Manhattan wardrobe into a colorful, summer year-round closet. And candidly, the differences between the style in New York and Miami are polarizing.

From the drastic difference between … Read the rest

Six Ways Technology is Changing Fashion For Good

Posted on January 21, 2021 by Adiantku

“I tend to have rose-coloured glasses when looking at the industry,” says Toronto-based journalist and Electric Runway founder, Amanda Cosco. Her view of the fashion world is not only positive but global and multi-dimensional, as she’s provided insight into how technology is changing fashion for over five years on her innovative and informational platform.

After exiting 2020 – a year that saw virtual runway shows across the globe, a huge bump in e-commerce consumption, and consumers’ awareness of their carbon footprint at an all-time high – it’s no surprise that she’s feeling optimistic about the future of fashion. And she shared the six key ways we’ll see the industry continue to improve, thanks to tech innovations.

A better fit is within reach

“With so much moving online, our expectations are getting higher as consumers,” Cosco says of how user experience is continually being scrutinized and refined. And this user experience … Read the rest

The Biden-Harris Administration Wore Historically Meaningful Outfits on Inauguration Day

Posted on January 21, 2021January 21, 2021 by Adiantku

In the lead up to Inauguration Day 2021, fashion designers remained relatively quiet about the outfits that we’d see on our new president and vice president. As it turned out, Joe Biden collaborated with Ralph Lauren on a suit for his swearing-in ceremony, reportedly made at Rochester Tailored Clothing in Rochester, NY. Ralph Lauren, a nonpartisan American brand, has been a go-to for both the president and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden at past events. Meanwhile, Jill has turned to sustainable designer Gabriela Hearst, as well as Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim of Oscar de la Renta, during the campaign, and chose to champion emerging talent in Markarian for her husband’s inauguration.
