Fashion Week, Designer Shows & Trends

Posted on January 22, 2021December 18, 2020 by Adiantku

The older we get the more we’re concerned about our appearance. On the 30’s, the French designer, Coco Chanel reinvented women’s fashion by adding an original piece to their wardrobe, one that was only used by men back in the day: pants. It had been debated whether the game between Orlando Pirates and Highlanders Park be staged as part of the celebrations and as the occasion at which the stadium was to be officially opened and handed over to the nation. The prime mover behind the idea was Prince Mfanfili Dlamini, a staunch supporter of the Buccaneers. When approached the two clubs officially were fascinated and the interest of the fans of this game in southern Africa was captured. There was no known objection to the proposal from the football-inclined section of white society. The white English Press was as impressive as the black Press. “No matter where you live … Read the rest

Skin is the largest organ of your body and covers every inch of it. You need to give due importance to body skin care in order to ensure your skin remains healthy and beautiful. Bailey, Robert C., Serge Bahuchet, and Barry S. Hewlett. “Development in the Central African Rainforest: Concern for Forest Peoples.” In K. Cleaver, et al., eds. Conservation of West and Central African Rainforests, 1992. It is so distressing to know that so many companies for the sake of financial gain manufacture products that contain ingredients which can damage your skin. Annoyingly, people go out and buy them. Even some of the so-called natural products contain oil, mineral oil, which is harmful to your skin. These products will never correct the root cause of your skin problem, which is to remove age spots. This is fact. In the lead up to Inauguration Day 2021, fashion designers remained relatively quiet about the outfits that we’d see on our new president and vice president. As it turned out, Joe Biden collaborated with Ralph Lauren on a suit for his swearing-in ceremony, reportedly made at Rochester Tailored Clothing in Rochester, NY. Ralph Lauren, a nonpartisan American brand, has been a go-to for both the president and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden at past events. Meanwhile, Jill has turned to sustainable designer Gabriela Hearst, as well as Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim of Oscar de la Renta, during the campaign, and chose to champion emerging talent in Markarian for her husband’s inauguration.

Simone Rocha and H&M Are Giving Us a Bridgerton-Inspired Wardrobe For the Entire Family

Posted on January 15, 2021 by Adiantku

London-based designer Simone Rocha is known for her romantic, girlish aesthetic inspired by pre-20th-century period fashion. For her first collaboration with H&M, Rocha is rediscovering the best designs from her past collections and creating a modern wardrobe for the entire family – including tulle dresses, separates, knitwear, outerwear, occasion wear, footwear, and casual pieces for women, men, and children. This is H&M’s first collaboration with an Irish designer.

While Rocha is Irish-born, Simone Rocha x H&M will also be shaped by the designer’s multicultural heritage by featuring traditions and crafts from Hong Kong and references to iconic moments in art history. “We see glimmers of Tudor courtiers, wild florals, portraits and photographs, dolls and trinkets. There is tartan, beading, florals, pinks, reds, and bespoke fabrications, developed in house, exclusively for this collaboration,” said H&M in a press statement.

The 10 Most Valuable Sneakers to Own (and Resell!) in 2021

Posted on January 14, 2021 by Adiantku

Even though we may not regularly consign our sneakers, investing in a new designer pair certainly feels more justifiable when we know the value. Buying pre-owned shoes, or even unworn styles with the tags still intact, is a smart way to shop – and not only because it’s a sustainable commitment. Usually, the luxury kicks that are being resold have soared in popularity, occasionally selling for even more than the original price.

We talked to Sean Conway, The RealReal‘s sneaker and streetwear expert, who offered some tips for those who collect sneakers as a hobby. “When it comes to buying sneakers, check resale value first to better understand what sneakers, styles, and colorways hold value,” he said. “When you’ve made your sneaker purchase, it’s always smart to keep the collateral, as original boxes and tags can increase resale value. For example, previously worn pairs sell for 34 percent … Read the rest

A Deep Dive Into Fatin's Outfits on The Wilds – 'Cause We Know You Love Her Jackets

Posted on January 13, 2021 by Adiantku

If you’ve seen the trailer for The Wilds but haven’t binge-watched the first season yet, you may assume the show couldn’t possibly yield fashion inspiration. After all, it follows a group of teenage girls who get stranded on a deserted island for weeks while en route to what they believed was a women’s empowerment retreat, forcing them to fight for their lives as part of an elaborate social experiment. And yet, despite the survivalist theme, Fatin Jadmani manages to stand out as the undisputed style star, rocking a multitude of chic outfits while enduring sleepless nights, unexpected storms, and a bout of food poisoning, among other dismal circumstances.

Portrayed by actress Sophia Ali, Fatin doesn’t wear comfortable athleisure like many of the other characters on the Amazon Prime Video series; she wears sparkly pants, crop tops, skinny jeans, fuzzy slippers, and a steady rotation of jackets covered in fur, … Read the rest

Brands, Repeat After Me: Hire More Black Influencers

A post shared by Chrissy Rutherford (@chrissyford)

Let’s face it: 2020 has been a year of letdowns, and the fashion industry is no exception – especially when it comes to matters of race. As a Black editor, I’m sick and tired of the general refusal to follow through on promises and simply do what is right. Following George Floyd’s murder, countless brands rushed to social media to share sentiments of solidarity. My inbox was flooded with emails titled, “Our commitment,” “We stand with the Black community,” and, my personal favorite, “We pledge to do better.” As someone who’s worked in fashion for eight years and experienced discrimination both firsthand and from afar, these so-called “promises” fell on deaf ears. They were performative, lacked emotion, and, frankly, felt like they were after one thing: my coin. As I dealt with the trauma and grief of losing … Read the rest

Kamala Harris's Vogue Controversy Continues as It's Revealed Her Team Chose Both Cover Outfits

Posted on January 11, 2021January 11, 2021 by Adiantku

In less than two weeks, Kamala Harris will make history as the first Black woman and first South Asian American woman sworn in as vice president of the United States. To mark such a momentous achievement, Vogue featured the politician as its February 2021 cover star, but the publication’s leaked cover quickly drew criticism. According to internet commentators, the styling and lighting didn’t reflect the powerful position Kamala will soon hold.

With photographer Tyler Mitchell behind the camera, Kamala posed in a black Donald Deal suit and her signature Converse sneakers for Vogue‘s print cover. She honored her Alpha Kappa Alpha roots with a strand of pearls as she stood against a draping pink and green background, signifying the sorority’s colors.

However, critics described the cover as “awkward” and said the lighting “washed out” our future VP. They also questioned the magazine’s decision to feature Kamala in … Read the rest

The Queen's Gambit: Anya Taylor-Joy Got to Keep Beth's Costumes, and Can We Please Be Her?

Posted on January 9, 2021 by Adiantku

The Queen’s Gambit is Netflix’s most watched series to date. Chess master Beth Harmon (played by Anya Taylor-Joy) captivated viewers with her wit, passion, and intensity, but it was her ’60s wardrobe designed and sourced by costumer Gabrielle Binder that gave the series its iconic element. Wonder where the costumes are now? Taylor-Joy stopped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to share how she was gifted all of her character’s outfits, her affinity with Beth Harmon, and why she sadly won’t be able to wear any of those gorgeous clothes.

“When I first read the book, I was so in love with Beth, instantly”, Taylor-Joy told Colbert. “And I think people follow passion, so I felt impassioned by chess when I finished reading the book. However, that being said, I think there’s thinking something will go down well and then there’s the mind-boggling numbers that you’ve just … Read the rest
